Ever heard the phase “Anything worthwhile is difficult?”

It has only been a little over week since our last post, but it’s pretty safe to say that we’ve been thrown a few curve balls lately. As if we didn’t bite off enough, life is continuing to get a bit more…complicated, terrifying, uncomfortable, and exhilarating all at the same time.

(Btw, if you’re wondering what the heck we’re doing, read this post)

So we have had an outpouring of love on our family as we and some really incredible people have worked over the last week to clean and prepare our new home (used loosely) for our family and especially Sy’s therapy. Heather has been using her great “nesting” skills to put things together in a way that requires a loving wife and mother like herself.

We had planned on being settled much sooner than this, but we’ve had one (or several) small, hairy bump(s) along the way…mice. Let me just say that the living adjustment has been pretty severe, but it’s on a whole other level when you lay in bed at night and hear the pitter-patter of mouse feet across your floor. We are working to get the problem resolved as quickly as we can. Heather and I have lived in several places with worse critter problems than this, but when you have kids and one that needs to be free of any possible allergens, it is another deal. The last thing this kid needs is “chocolate sprinkles” on his Granny Smith apples. Rest easy that Sy is actually having a great time here (kids are amazing) and his therapy is still happening (with many more precautions being taken).

So, as I sit here on the first day of the year, I think about what we’ve stepped into (pun intended) and the road that lies ahead. Just know that this family is only working hard because we know that we are exactly where we need to be…even if it includes mouse turds. Even though we have spent the last three weeks moving our family EIGHT times and we’ve been dying to get back into our blogging rhythm, we know good things are just around the corner. Sometimes you just have to fight for groovy, green, and gunk-free living.

Well, the real saying of “when life hands you lemons, make lemonade” is a great saying, but that’s too easy. Lemon juice is expected to come from lemons. The really cool thing to watch is when unexpected life-changes come from little stinky rice-sized pellets.

Our training begins tomorrow! Please pray for us. We will be getting back on a regular schedule once we know what to expect here.
